Fall Tournament to be decided this Thursday, December 22!!
The winner of Syed-Hamza H vs. Chris G will take on Feng C to decide the champion for the Fall Tournament.
Players in "Bracket B" (those who joined late or had one loss or two no-shows in "Bracket A") will continue to compete in the Winter Tournament when we return from break. The winner of Bracket B would then have to beat the winner of Bracket A two out of three to take the crown.
Players with two losses or three no-shows total have been eliminated from the tournament:
Abdul A,
Elsie L,
Alex F,
Henry R.
Last week, Henry R had a strong win over Feng C. Though eliminated from the tournament with two losses, he beat the current leading player in Bracket A. This is why we play the games!

Fall Tournament Bracket is Here!
Here is the bracket based on current rankings. There are still opportunities for additional players to sign up.
This will be a double-elimination tournament, so a loss does not mean you are out. However, two losses does.
If both players show up to a meeting, they play the scheduled match.
If neither player shows up to a meeting, the match will be rescheduled or cancelled.
If one player shows up and the other doesn't, the no-show player has one week to seek out his or her opponent to make up the match, or else it's a forfeit.
The top three seeds are given a "bye" through to the second week, but are encouraged to come to the meeting in the event that additional players not listed on the current bracket show up.
After the first week, winners will continue as scheduled through bracket "A," while their opponents will be re-seeded into bracket "B." A loss on bracket "B" constitutes elimination from the tournament.
To sign up, see Mr. Sterling or Mr. Mandel.

For any new players looking to improve their tactics and strategy, here are three useful websites where you can sharpen your skills:
Chess Kit Training - An old-school tutorial good for those who want to explore on their own.
Chess Academy - A sleek website for those who can dedicate a little time every day.
Chess Corner Tutorials - The most thorough and comprehensive.
Please post comments here if you find any other websites worth sharing. Thanks and see you at the meeting.
